Abstract

Aim: to verify the level of smartphone addiction in Nursing students.

Methods: cross-sectional study on the 280 students enrolled in the Nursing degree at the Gijón School of Nursing, through a self-administered questionnaire. The main variable was smartphone addiction, while sociodemographic and smartphone use characteristics were the independent variables. Odds ratios between the dependent and independent variables were calculated and a predictive model was established.

Results: a statistically significant association was found between the academic year and the daily hours of mobile use (p = 0.035).

Similarly, statistically significant differences were also found between the age at which they had their first mobile and the academic year (p = 0.006). It was a statistically significant positive correlation between the age of the participants and the age at which they obtained their first mobile (p = 0.000).

Conclusions: the age of initiation of smartphone use is decreasing. There is no self-perception of dependence, and addicts to its use are not recognized.
