Abstract
Objective: Determine the percentage of patients who presented good adherence to the Mediterranean diet in the population assigned to 3 health centers in the health area of Madrid-Spain, belonging to the north-west health care department. Subsequently, describe the profile of those with good adherence, explore beliefs about false myths in food, and determine the relationship between adherence and beliefs.
Method: A cross-sectional observational descriptive study was carried out in a sample of 378 people, between July 2019 and January 2020, in 3 health centers in Madrid (La Marazuela-Las Rozas Clinic, Brunete Clinic, Segovia Health Center ), through self-administered questionnaires that consisted of 2 parts , one based on a questionnaire on the Mediterranean diet adapted for Madrid-AP and another prepared by the researchers based on 2 studies on food.
Results: 65% of the total surveyed showed good adherence to the Mediterranean diet, the majority being women (n= 203 (64.2%)). The mean age of those surveyed was 49.6 years, with the majority of Spanish origin (81.7%).
Conclusions: There were no significant differences when relating adherence to sex, age or educational level. The results obtained regarding the consumption of fruits, vegetables and wine were not similar to those reflected in other studies. No relationship was found between adherence and myths.
